day twenty-nine: purchased

Almost eleven years ago, my soon to be husband moved here while I finished grad school.  He came with his bachelors degree in Psychology, but Ben loved to work with his hands.  He worked at a green house in college and took a stone masonry class one summer.  So he gets here, opens the paper and sees an ad for "a carpenters helper."  He checks it out. And decided to give it a try.  Sometime in the very beginning, his boss John told him that if he works for him for ten years, he will send us to Hawaii.  Really?  Whatever?  So a marriage, 2 babies, and a lot of hard work in between - John followed-through with his promise.  Monday September 19th, Ben and I fly to Hawaii for 6 days and 5 nights.  I am giddy with excitement.  I can't wait to have those days alone, no kids, to read, check out the area and enjoy being with my husband.  But when I think about being away from the kids for that long, tears well up in my eyes.  I supposed, or I guess deep down I know, we will be fine, and it will all be worth it.  So today is not what I purchased, but what Ben's boss John purchased.  Thank you John, from the bottom of our hearts.

  1. That is amazing! People don't do things like that and to have a boss that actually keeps his word is wonderful. Have fun!
